We are very excited to welcome DEISEIL (Sounds like jay-shal) to our hall in November - They will be performing their Fiddle and Stepdance show as well as offering a combined Fiddle and Stepdance Workshop. Deiseil: Dancing in Time is a powerful exploration of how stepdance, Scotland’s percussive dance, was lost… and how its revival became woven into a lifelong friendship. Experience a compelling journey across centuries of tradition told through fiddle, feet, Gaelic song and story, in an immersive performance which draws you in to the heart of our heritage. Directed by multiple award winning director Gerry Mulgrew (founder of Communicado Theatre Company), performed by dancer Alison Carlyle and musician Amy Geddes, and devised by Alison, Amy and Gerry. Deiseil means “ready” in Scottish Gaelic : be ready for a mesmerising reflection on how issues of culture, identity and connection still resonate through society today. Workshops Deiseil: Dancing in Time offers the perfect opportunity for us to spend meaningful time in communities, connecting them with this tradition. Once meeting Glasgow nu jazz scene stalwarts Norman Vilaroux, Mathew Kilner & Jakob Gueye combined with Afro-Latin percussionist Duende the fertile ground was set to bloom. DUENDE Ben Vardi aka Duende is a Scottish/Chilean producer, DJ, promoter and percussionist. Drawing inspiration from his South American roots, his sound is a high energy blend of Latin, Carribean & UK bass music. Focussed on bringing positive energy, uplifting sets while his productions seek to push the boundaries of genres and make connections between cultures. Duende started in Glasgow 2022 initially as a party. These nights celebrate Latin music and showcase a wide variety of live acts and DJs. These parties channel the carnival energy of Latin America. Past guests include, Volta 45, Los Chinchanos, Manzanita Jr Y Su Junto, Orchestra Boreal, Killabeatmaker, Kaya M & Ritmos Choluteka.
