Event Details

The Nevis Ensemble is different. There’s nothing else quite like it in Scotland. Its vision is ‘music for everyone, everywhere’. And it means business… 40 young and energetic musicians run out of a bus, instruments in hand, and less than five minutes later the intrigued crowd hears something incredible and unexpected.

Nevis Ensemble takes its 40-piece symphony orchestra to the summit of Ben Nevis during an intense 70- performance tour of public and community venues including Craignish Village Hall.
Conducted by Holly Mathieson (RSNO, NYOS) and Jon Hargreaves (Octandre Ensemble, Online Orchestra), enjoy the world premiere of a new commission from Matthew Grouse (2018 New Music Scotland award winner) of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, as well as music by Beethoven, Stravinsky and Debussy, mixed in with some pop songs, jazz tunes, and some good Scottish favourites – with a salsa twist.

The 40 musicians are some of Europe’s most talented orchestral players, following collaboration between the Ricciotti Ensemble in Amsterdam, Street Orchestra Live in London, HFM in Berlin, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and the National Youth Orchestras of Scotland. Nevis is supported by Glasgow 2018, Creative Scotland and the Hugh Fraser Foundation.

Supported by Festival 2018 and The Touring Network (Highlands & islands)
